Newhouse 2

"Newhouse Communications Center II" by Original Building Skidmore, Owens and Merrill; Renovation Gensler , Original Building 1971 - 1974; Renovation 2012 - 2014

Newhouse II is the second building in the three-building complex that houses the Newhouse School of Public Communications. The building features a two-story lobby with a glass exterior wall and a bright orange interior wall facing the corner of University and Waverly avenues. Newhouse II contains two sophisticated state-of-the-art television studios, a 100 seat theater and a broadcast news laboratory.

In 1971, Syracuse’s journalism program had earned a reputation as one of the nation’s best programs and construction began on Newhouse II, the second building in the Samuel I. Newhouse School of Public Communications complex. Newhouse II underwent a major renovation from 2012 to 2014, including the addition of the striking, two-story entry lobby with a double-height glass curtain. The renovation also included the construction of the Newhouse Studio and Innovation Center, which features Dick Clark Studios, named after legendary entertainer and SU alumnus Dick Clarge (Class of 1951), and the Alan Gerry Center for Media Innovation. Oprah Winfrey and Kari Clark, widow of Dick Clark, spoke at the dedication ceremony for the center in 2014.
