MacNaughton Hall

"Winifred MacNaughton Hall" by Ayers/Saint/Gross , 1996 - 1998

MacNaughton Hall was originally built to provide the SU College of Law additional student workspace, seminar rooms, and moot courtrooms. With this in mind, the building was designed to resemble a traditional courthouse or public building. The building includes six lecture halls, four seminar rooms, three student lounges, and a cafe. The building also includes a two-story connector with Ernest J. White Hall that also features the Geraldine Doyle Koch courtyard. The MacNaughton Hall was repurposed for other University uses after the College of Law moved to Dineen Hall in 2014.

MacNaughton Hall was built after a 1990 survey determined that the SU College of Law lacked sufficient learning facilities. The building was made possible by a $1.5 million donation from the MacNaughton family, including Winifred R.(Thomas) MacNaughton and Donald MacNaughton (Class of 1939 and College of Law Class of 1948), as well as their sons Donald and David, who were also SU graduates. The building offered a law clinic and formal courtroom, including a judge’s chamber as well as a circular moot courtroom for classes and intramural competitions.
